I know I may be in the minority and never saw the stage show but i love Sweeney Todd for some strange reason...My dad saw the stage show in England but never told me because he didn't like it..he was planning to see Cats but it was sold out so he asked about Sweeney Todd which was brand new at the time only musical they had not sold out so he saw that instead having no idea what it was about..I finally got him to watch the movie with me(after i purchased the DVD)

I love Sweeney Todd! I've seen the movie and the stage show since the last time I posted in this topic. You can probably guess which one I prefer, but at least I thought the ST movie was a million times better than the POTO movie. LOL.
What's your favorite part of ST, Opera Angel?

Well depends on whether I'm watching it or listening to the music I love worst pies in London and epiphany and when they are singing about all the people on the street..I actually enjoyed Sweeney and Anthony singing Johanna while Todd slashed various men's throats..I know I'm sick

I've never seen Sweeney Todd before. I know I shouldnt be judging it since I've never seen it but I think it's really odd. There are only so many things I can listen to songs about...and killing people is definately pushing it. Dying of AIDS is one thing, but making pies out of humans is on a completely different level. Maybe I should just watch it and shut up. My sorta-girlfriend keeps telling me to watch it (but I think it's only because she loves Johnny Deep!) and I keep putting it off. Even though I dont know any of you, I feel like you know my musical tastes better...should I watch it since there's a chance I could like it? Or skip it because I wont like it and I'll come on here and complain about it?
But on a positive note, I really like West Side Story. Carol Lawrence and Larry Kert is some good stuff.

It's hard for me to say, phantomphreak, because I love ST so much. I'd tell you to give it a chance, at least, but even that's difficult to say because I don't think it's one of those musicals that pulls you in from the very first song, you know?
What I can tell you, at least for me and most of the people I know, is that somehow the killing and eating of people really doesn't seem that bad in the context of the show somehow. I mean, it's awful if you really think about it, but they immediately get you on Sweeney's side so you feel bad for him and want him to get revenge, and they make it so funny and clever ("And we have some shepherd's pie peppered with actual shepherd on top!") that you kind of forget how gross it should be.
And, of course, if you see it and you hate it, you can come back here and whine about it the same way I whine about the POTO movie all the time. ^_^

I told my kinda-girlfriend I was going to watch ST....and basically she has an ass-whopping waiting for me since I gave her such a hard time about not wanting to see it lol. Lovely.
I trust you phantomgirl, so hopefully soon (probably when finals are over) I'll have my review and/or rant.

I hope you like it! And if you don't, I'm sure your rant will be an amusing read. ^_^
In case you like the music/story but not the cast, I know a couple of alternate casts (read: actual Broadway stars) are available for watching on YouTube. My favorite Christine, Lisa Vroman, plays Johanna in one of them. Just FYI.
