Obviously none of the answers to these questions are going to be "correct," but I thought it might be fun to discuss them, to get some more conversation flowing.
What do you guys think Meg did at the end of the musical, when she'd found the Phantom's mask? Do you think she would have looked for him? Taken the mask someplace with her? Hidden it from her mother?
What about the added scene in the movie, when Meg goes behind the mirror toward the Phantom's lair? What do you think would have happened if her mother hadn't stopped her?
I know it'll be really natural to give these very E/M-slanted answers ("She followed him and then they fell in love!"), but let's talk realistically too. I think it's a good thing that Madame Giry stopped her from following the passageway down there, personally. I wouldn't wanna think about how pissed off the Phantom would have been if Meg had wandered in while he was down there with Christine.

I don't think Meg was ever meant to be a operatic star like Christine. She was the prima ballerina, and that was the Phantom's plan for her. But I think Meg was curious about the Phantom and wanted to know all about him. I for one don't go for the Phantom/Meg love story, kind of corny to me.

Hey, welcome to the board MattD! Thanks for the input. I see where you're coming from, definitely; I don't entirely go for E/M either. I think it's cute, but not canon. I used to really love the idea, but I'm starting to fall out of it a bit, I think because of some of the lousy E/M fanfiction I've read, which is unfortunate.

I agree with PG110, I'm glad Madame Giry stopped Meg from going down the passage. He would've killed her.

Which fanfic was it that I didn't like? Not one in particular, just a lot of the E/M ones I've come across lately. A lot of them seem to have the idea that Erik would get over Christine really quickly and immediately attach himself to Meg, and that just feels so...not right, I guess. For lack of a better phrase.

Well I doubt that the Phantom would have killed Meg right off the bat if her mother hadn't stopped her because of Mme Giry. Meg might have turned back of her own volition because of the mice or if it got really dark...but I would think she would have returned to the mirror in the future...though I'm sure just the Phantom appearing right in fronf of her in the corridor would have frightened her enough to turn tail and run As for the mask I always thought Meg would keep it ...a secret from her mother and from everyone..and hoping that maybe the phantom would come back for it in the future...I always thought even though Meg showed fear whenever the phantom was around I believe she had some sort of fascination now not exactly love, but a type of wonder

Oh no, I can't imagine it was one of yours, phantomluver4ever1. You actually have common sense, haha.
Awww, Opera Angel, what you said about her hoping he'd come back for his mask somehow made me think of Peter Pan. At the beginning, Peter comes back into Wendy's room because she caught his shadow and kept it in her dresser so that she could give it to him when he came back. *tries to shake off the image of Gerik in green tights* Anyhow. I like the idea that she'd keep it for him...I think it definitely sounds like something she would do.

I think Meg would keep it, perhaps develop a, pardon the pun, Phantom crush on the Ghost through her fantasies about the man behind the mask. She seems to have a broad imagination. I read a story like that once; she keeps the mask and goes in search of Erik because she's so curious about him. It was a EM afterwards, but the idea that she'd go look for the man her mother swore to protect isn't unplausible. What she'd see him as-- lover, brother, father, friend-- I don't know. But I can see her looking for him.

Yeah, I can definitely see her going in search of him too, if for no other reason than to satisfy her curiosity.
