I went to see Phantom in NY a few weeks ago and I meant to write a review for you guys and I just got around to posting it here! Sorry for the wait!
This was an amazing show! This was my first time seeing the Broadway production and it was lovely! I was so thrilled to see Kris Koop as Madame Giry, Jimmy Smagula as Piangi, and Patricia Phillips as Carlotta.
There appeared to be lots of people seeing the show for the first time. Jason Mills was great as the auctioneer, he has such a great voice and he really built up the suspense leading to "Perhaps we may frighten away the ghost of so many years ago..."
There were so many screams when the chandelier lit up and started to rise! The orchestra sounded wonderful, too.
I really liked Patricia as Carlotta, she has great comic timing. I thought that she and Jimmy Smagula performed so well together. David Cryer and George Lee Andrews were priceless as Monsieur Firmin and Monsieur Andre. They are such a great team!
I really liked Michael as Raoul. He has such a nice voice. I especially loved his "Bravo!!" during Think of Me, very sweet and very enthusiastic!
Jennifer's Christine was very pretty. She has a very young teenage sort of essence about her.
Gary was simply magnificent! There is simply nothing else I can say!
He amazes me every single time I see him. I didn't think that it was possible but it seems that Gary has perfected his performance. I didn't ever believe that he could become any more amazing, but I think he has done it! Every moment that he was on stage was wonderful. His Music of the Night caused me to sob. Gary's "Wandering Child" was one of the best that I have ever seen him do. And his Final Lair made me sob again!
I used a ton of kleenex, but it was well worth every tear!
The performance was one of the most beautiful that I have ever seen!
