Alright, I'm going to be the controversial one to bring up this topic that's been battled, since, like, ever (alright, since the movie came out). What's our thought on Rossum's portrayal of Christine...? After all, we know how much I truly and terribly adore her... ;D
(When the red-breasted robins nest in Ameria, that is.)

Well, to put it lightly... I hate Emmy's portrayal of Christine with a fiery passion from the depths of my soul. But that's just me. If other people like her, I'm happy for them. ^_^ EDIT: Brave of you to bring this up, by the way.

Well since I've seen the stage show I am not going to compare movie's to stage however I was glad I saw the movie Emmy's portrayal helped me immensely with roleplaying Christine...she did seem like exactly what Christine was ..I may be in the minority but I am not going to agree with everyone...I like her and hera cting

Emmy is beautiful. She has a lovely voice. Now, I liked the movie, but the stage show is my one true love! I don't think that Emmy has what it takes to play Christine on stage. I'm so sorry! I don't mean to offend anyone. I'm just voicing my opinion!

Well as I said before movie and stage are different While Emmy may play Christine well in the movie I doubt she could transfer it to stage as well. Now if a stage Christine were in the movie opposite a stage phantom...well i don't know how that would come out

Dont get me started on Emmy Rossum's Christine... Shes very pretty and all but shes just not fit on be Christine. Could the girl possibly sing any softer? I cant hear a damn thing shes saying. Shes no Sarah Brightman thats for sure

Actually anytime I listen to the stage show sdtk or the 2004 sdtk on cd I have to turn it up at certain parts..no matter who is singing...ther are parts both in movie and stage show that probably sound that way no matter what...of course theaters turn the sound up so much that you can't hear much vocals anyway

I don't...HATE Emmy's portayal of Christine, it is pretty good, very good, considering she hasn't sung pro in a number of years (don't give me that crap that she's been training since she was seven at the Met, that's a load of rot. She's been making movies since thirteen mmkay?). If she was training, her voice would have developed a WHOLE lot more than it was. I think they should have used someone older, mostly because I don't think Emmy's voice was strong enough for the part. Honestly, when you're doing something big like POTO, and you have literally millions of fans who go to the show EVERY YEAR, who see trained sopranos, I think Emmy is a bit of a dissapointment. She did a fine job, and I'm making this absolutely clear, FOR HER AGE. You can't expect a seventeen-year-old to go and sing like the twenty-five year olds who have been singing and training every single day for the past fifteen-twenty years. It isn't done. Also, Emmy isn't the LOUDEST soprano either, she's extremly soft, which I think is why in some parts of songs she sounds weak. I think she was an okay choice, and I applaud her for taking on a role that was definitly bigger than her voice. In the end, I think she handled it very well, but not for Broadway.

I agree completely with Little Giry. I think Emmy has an amazing voice. And without years of training? It's incredible. I think she could have a chance in the pop music world, just not the POTO world. I plan on getting her cd when it comes out this summer, but I just cant stand listening to her as Christine. I realize Joel wanted fresh new voices but you'd think ALW would have just a little say in the matter...

I liked Emmy. I used to absolutely love her until I saw the stage show, then I realized that the role could be done so much better. I think she did an excellent job, but just not as good as it could be

I think Emmy did a fine job. I was introduced to Phantom through the 2004 movie and have since listened to the original soundtrack, read the Leroux novel, and read the Kay novel. I think that Emmy brought an innocence to Christine that made her portrayal fresh. All other Christines are older and know full well what Erik is-- which is why I can't sympathize much with Christine's situation. But Emmy's Christine is not yet an adult and is very confused. She needed guidance and Erik provided. The fact that he was lying to her was more powerful because her wide-eyed innocence was shattered.

Okay this has nothing to do with POTO but I thought it would be easier to talk about it here instead of in a new thread. Feel free to move it if you'd rather a new thread, phantomgirl.
Has anyone picked up Emmy's new CD? I'm sure everyone has heard Slow Me Down since they've been advertising it like crazy. I think it's a catchy song and it gets stuck in your head for hours and all you wanna sing is "just slooooow meeEE downnn". But it sounds so computerized and you cant hear Emmy's natural voice and that bothers me. I'd say it sounds like mostly Enya with a little Celine Dion mixed in. And is it just me or does every web page I go to have an Emmy Rossum advertisement?
Gosh...she looks kinda like my sister...

It's 'cuz it's a POTO site. All the POTO boards have Emmy Ads, but few other type of proboards do... Oddly enough.
I have the CD and I personally like it. It is computerized to a degree, but my favorite song (I believe it's called "Anymore") is not. It's got this cool "music box" instrumental and piano and violin and it's really good. I love the lyrics of the CD, but the songs begin to blur together.
That's my two cents on the matter.

That was my first thought about the ads, but I see them almost everywhere. Google, MySpace, etc.
