Starring Claude Rains. Anyone else seen it? It strayed from Leroux a lot but I still thought it was a great movie. No Meg. But there was 2 Raoul-like characters. The set for the last performance in the movie was amazing. I liked Anatole better than Raoul. At first the love-square was hard to follow but it was a nice change from the usual POTO love-triangle.
What about you guys?

I've seen it and I own it as well so I've watched it several times..I really don't like Christine's last name but I laughed at some places because of the two men vying for her affections..although I do feel Claude Raines talent was wasted in the movie.. he wasn't in it very much except at the beginning and the very end...

I feel the same way. When I was watching it I was thinking "Alright, so where's Erique while all this is going on???" Christine's last name made me laugh because there's a news anchor named Maurice DuBois.

I liked this version, but almost as something completely seperate from POTO. I enjoyed the movie, the sets/costumes were beautiful, there was some gorgeous singing, it had some cute parts (love the "two Raouls"), but it didn't feel like Phantom to me at all...probably because, as you both said, it felt like Erique was barely involved in any of it.

For a movie from 1943, I thought the video quality was pretty good. Does anyone have a pic/screenshot of the mask and violin in the ruble at the end?
