Oh good, I'm glad I'm not alone here. I didn't wanna say that I was disappointed right off the bat, but...yeah. I didn't completely hate the prologue; if it had to be based off the movie, at least it was written alright, for the most part. But when it got into first chapter it went completely downhill. To start off the first chapter with Meg describing hers and Christine's naked bodies? Not to mention the obvious scene with Meg taking off Erik's clothes...completely unnecessary and badphic. I would very much like for this to be a good book, but judging by that little excerpt...meh.

I thought I'd be alone on my opinion too! Lol. I'm so picky when it comes to my fanfiction, nothing exceptionally naughty, (I don't need all the details people, just, yeah. Just leave it alone.) I also don't like out-of-character either. It grates on my nerves, and makes me think the author has a weakness or something that they can't keep somone canon. (Like Erik. He does NOT cuddle. Mmkay? NO CUDDLING! Sorry...ranting. You don't want to see this...) and this pretty much hit the nail on the head for badphic. I do agree with phantomgirl110, the prologue, though going by the movie, was at least done well enough NOT to bore me. But then it pretty much deflated. I wasn't execting brilliance... just something better than FF.net.

Sorry, I know I just posted, I just realized, SHE CHANGED MADAME GIRY'S NAME!!!! THIS IS NOT DIFFICULT PEOPLE. ANTOINETTE. AN. TOI. NETTE. Say it with me. Now I have to go back and see if she changed Meg's name. You know, Megan, Megatha, Megara. IT'S MARGUERITE! LIKE THE OPERA!!! Sorry. Another rant. Heh. I'll stop now.

I'm a bit disappointed also. No ones wants to hear about the movie anymore...please...it's killing me. I'm gonna stick with it though and read the other 3 books. Hey, maybe it'll get better...maybe.

I can't completely agree on Madame Giry's name, since Leroux's novel never gives her a first name and it's the only thing that's OFFICIAL canon, but it still seems slightly odd to me that she didn't stick with the name Kay gave her. I wonder if she was trying to be unique or if she just isn't aware of the Kay novel? I'd still like to read more too, for curisoty's sake if nothing else, but I'm not expecting a whole lot from a book that includes Meg getting aroused by Erik's perfect body in the first chapter.

I know all of you think that so far its terrible, but come on you guys, its not like the author can meet everyones expectations. I mean it takes gut to write story that has billions of fans all over the world with different and very high expectations. It sounds better than Phantom of Manhattan for sure. I agree that some of it is bad, but if the book was stink all together, the book would not have been published. Also how can you not hit a little bit of fanfiction.net, I mean the only way to find the Phantom after she found the mask was by finding the hidden passageway he went through at the end. Of course a lot of you might critize me for liking it, but in my personal opinion, I like it so far, may not be on my top five, but it still has my interest.

I see your point phantomluver4ever1. It is only a phanphic and the author cant appeal to everyones tastes. It's her book and this is how she see it so we shouldnt criticize.
In reference to phantomgirl110's comment, I think a lot of people disregard Kay all together because that isnt official either. It's pretty much a phanphic if you think about it. We're just not used to reading one that takes place before the usual storyline or one that is written so greatly, so we dont consider it one.

It doesn't matter if it's good or not, if she's self-publishing through a company that doesn't use editors, they aren't going to say boo about it. (There are several companies I know of that publish books no questions asked, they only require you have a beta reader) As for the name thing, this is true too, (I had always assumed it was Antoinette. In the four years I've learned of Phantom, almost everyone uses Antoinette so...sorry...*red faced*) No, the author can't appeal to everyone's tastes...but, on the other hand I think if we're all expecting something really good, or at least half-way there, and we get exactly what we've found on all the fanfic sites, I think we'd be dissapointed. As for Kay, I've never paid attention to it (It's totally E/C! Meh. THat's just me, I know there are tons of people who say she's fantastic, but I'm not crazy about her) So my rule of thumb is don't publish POTO! Not in book-form anyway. I'm all for fanfic sites and all that jazz (I'm an E/M fan for petes sake!). So far, all the POTO sequels I've read are horrid, and are never canon or have so many ridiculous mistakes it isn't even funny. So I've learned to stay away. But that's just me. *shrugs* Sorry!

Okay, I take back what I said. I just finished it and to put it lightly.....Montgomery is getting a nasty letter from me. Where is the E/M? Meg was hardly in it! I'd categorize that as a E/C with a sad ending. Erik doesnt even love Meg! THIS IS BULL!!! And is it just me or was there countless spelling and grammar errors? For example, on page 208, it says "Eric" .......now that is just stupid. That is one stupid mistake.

LOL. This is sick. *hangs head in shame* what happened to good grammer, proper spelling? *sings mournfully* Whatever happened to class? So, it's just one of those stories that says "This is E/M!" but really, it's just an excuse for Erik to lounge around, complain about his "OEMGEEGAWDAWFUL life without KRISTEENE" and Meg is supposed to sleep with him and supposedly "heal him" but not really because he'll send her packing back to her mother? Lord. That's really decieving, people are spending money on this book (which looks hardcover from all the pictures) and are expecting their favorite pairing, and all it really is, is just a load of bull-crap Eric(k) complaining about blah-blah-blah! WHY IS HE CRYING?! ERIK THE OPERA GHOST DOES NOT FEAR DEATH! *is very ticked off indeed* I-you...ARGH!! This book is crap. Enough said.

And I do not, repeat do NOT, like the character to Madame Giry. I always saw her as a strong character. A I'm-not-gonna-take-crap-from-no-one type attitude. Even towards Erik. But in this book she's not the smart strict woman she is in every other version. Tsk tsk Montgomery, tsk tsk.

I'm not crazy about the "I don't take nobody's crap! *z-snap*" Madame Giry becuase, while she could do that sort of thing to the managers, I don't think she could get away with it with Erik. I think she could be "Erik, you need to be doing-" and be that sort of moral guidance since she rescued him anway. Hmm. That IS a first though. Making Madame Giry stupid actually her age. I've seen my fair amount of bad Madame Giry's too. Usually with her hosting lavish dinner parties or trying to get Meg to marry someone ugly, rich, and a butt-head. (OMG ERIK! LOL) Hmmm. Odd. If this is just the first book though...I HATE to see the next three...I'll just sit back and see what everyone else says about them. ;D

O...M...G...
That's worse than I ever expected. Far worse.
I mean, after the little preview we got I was expecting a book full of E/M sexing, which would have been really dumb but like a million fanfics I've seen. But to call it an E/M pairing and then barely have Meg in it? What the heck is up with that? That's not just dumb, it's false advertisement.

ok, so I was going through my meg videos on youtube and for some reason was looking at the links. One of them happen to lead me to a myspace profile for Erik/ Meg fans. I found three of my videos posted on the person's page. "So She Dances" was on her comments and someone happen to comment her about my video, asking where she got the video. It turns out that the person asking for the video was Sadie Montgomery. If you want to find out what she had to say about her book here's her profile: www.myspace.com/sadiemontgomery
